School of Sanctuary
We at Ss. Peter and Paul would like you to join us on
our journey in becoming a School of Sanctuary.
What is a School of Sanctuary?
A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for everybody, regardless of where they are from.
People seek sanctuary for many different reasons. They may seek sanctuary because their lives were in danger in their own country, have troubles at home or are just looking for a place of safety.
A School of Sanctuary is a school that helps its students, staff and wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community. It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.
There are three main principles to being a School of Sanctuary:
1. Learn - Schools help their students, staff and wider community learn about what it means to be seeking sanctuary and the issues surrounding forced migration.
2. Embed - Schools are committed to taking positive action to promote concepts of welcome, safety and inclusion within the community seeking sanctuary.
3. Share - Schools share their vision, values and celebrate achievements with their local communities.
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
