About Year 1/2BB
Year 1 - The Resurrection
“Jesus’ Resurrection … is the source of our future resurrection: Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church
Year 1 will learn that Jesus appeared to his disciples in the Upper Room and will think about the times when they have experienced great joy and surprise. They will learn that Jesus helped his disciples to understand that he was risen from the dead and was with them (John 21: 9-14) and this made them very happy. They will learn that when Thomas heard that Jesus was alive he did not believe it. They will also become aware that sometimes, like Thomas, we don’t understand what is happening.
You could help your children by:
•reading stories from the Bible about Easter and Pentecost
Year 2 - Eastertide
“It is the Holy Spirit who forms and guides God’s people to know God and enter into communion with God through Jesus Christ.”
Religious Education Curriculum Directory
Year 2 will learn that Jesus rose from the dead and still lives with us. They will learn that Jesus told his disciples that he would go back to Heaven but promised that the Holy Spirit would come. They will learn that Jesus ascended into Heaven and promised to return again and that this gives us hope. They will also know the story of the coming of the Holy Spirit on the apostles at Pentecost and know that the Holy Spirit is promised to us.
You could help your children by:
• talking about how the Holy Spirit helps us
• having a close look at the Paschal (Easter) Candle when at Mass
Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school every day.
Please label ALL clothing and belongings.
Please ensure you put sun cream on your children on sunny days.
Physical Education (PE)
Our P.E day is Tuesday, please ensure your child comes in to school on Tuesday wearing their P.E Kit. School uniform for P.E is a white t-shirt, black or navy-blue shorts and black pumps. As we are doing Yoga this half term children can just wear their indoor P.E kits with trainers. Your child may require something warmer to wear if the weather is colder. Please ensure that all items of kit are clearly labelled with your child’s name. For health and safety reasons, children cannot wear jewellery for PE, so all children need to either be able to remove their earrings or they should be removed in the morning before school.
Homework will generally be sent out on Friday and returned by the following Thursday. We will send out paper copies and add it to Google Classroom as well. Homework is used to consolidate your child’s learning from that week. Please support your child with their homework where needed.
Children are expected to know their 2, 5 and 10 times tables and associated division facts by the end of year 2. Please ensure that your children access Times Tables Rock Stars to keep their skills sharp.
Logins will be sent out shortly.
The children will bring home a new reading book every Friday in their book bag. Please bring your child's book bag in on a Monday so the books can be isolated for 72 hours. Please listen to your child read out loud and record this in their diary. Please discuss any vocabulary that they are not sure of.
Year 1 children need to be able to read and spell all of the Year 1 common exception words by the end of the year. Year 2 children need to be able to read and spell all of the Year 2 common exception words by the end of the year.
