Well done to our our F2 children who have been working very hard every single day.

The children enjoy doing a busy job each day. We always do our best and follow our special "Clever Owl Rules."

One of our special jobs is being the "Cross Helper". We know this is a special time when we can be still and talk to God.

Year 1 – Mary, the Mother of God

The children will learn that God sent the Angel Gabriel with a message

to Mary and learn why this is important. They will learn that God asked

Mary to be the mother of his son and will have an opportunity to reflect

on her response.

They will hear about Mary’s visit to her cousin, Elizabeth and reflect on the good news. They will begin to reflect on how we can prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus and learn that Mary is our mother in heaven and that she is looking after us.

At home

You could help your children by:

  • reinforcing why Mary is important for Christians
  • discussing the importance of mothers

PE day

Monday is our PE day. Children come to school dressed in their PE kits. Joggers or track suit bottoms are warm whilst it is chilly, also sweatshirt or hoodies over PE T-shirts and trainers.

There are also 'Jolly Phonics' you tube clips that will help the teaching of pure sounds. We also watch Geraldine the Giraffe clips for particular sounds.

It is important to read a little every day.

Read together every day

Reading with your child continues to be really important so keep reading lots of different books together. Most picture books will be too hard for a child of this age to read alone, but it’s good for them just to listen to a story or information book and talk about the pictures with you.

Talk about the book before you begin reading

Before reading a book together, always talk about the title, the pictures and the information on the cover (front and back). If it’s new, ask what your child thinks the book might be about. If it’s an old favourite then talk about the bits you love most! Don’t worry if some books get chosen again and again!

Read with different voices

When reading aloud use lots of expression and try different voices for different characters. Get your child to join in with bits too, such as, ‘They pulled and they pulled!’ and ‘Fee, fi, fo, fom...’. See if your child can copy you!

Ask each other questions

Talk about the stories and information books when you’ve finished reading together and ask questions. What did you like best? Why did the tiger let Floppy go? Have you ever played a trick on anybody? Get your child to ask you questions too.

Retell stories and events

Ask your child about things that happened at school or with their friends. Sometimes, after you’ve shared a story or watched a TV programme, ask your child to tell you about it. Help them by asking 2What happened first? What next? And then what?2

Why not share an eBooks together now?
